Celeste Robbins

My love for design and craft began at an early age. Growing up in Ohio, I would spend hours constructing elaborate forts using safety pins and blankets tucked into drawers, and my passion for architecture continued to grow through the years. After training at Cornell University and completing a fellowship in Europe, I spent several years working on the East Coast before returning to my Midwest roots and settling in Chicago.

Architecture and artistry are in my DNA. My signature aesthetic is rooted in a deep understanding of modernism and a belief that every design should be edited until the solution is meaningful, serene, and beautiful—as livable as it is elegant. I am passionate about deepening the connection between a home and its surroundings, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor. Inherent flexibility, modern livability, and timeless beauty define my work, resulting in harmonious spaces that fit my clients’ tastes and lifestyles.

Robbins-Architecture-About-Teamwork

While Robbins Architecture has grown and now has commissions across the United States, I remain personally involved with each and every project, and have handpicked team members who share my same passion and dedication to architecture as an art form. We live and breathe every project. And publications and awards aside, I value most my repeat client relationships, word-of-mouth referrals, and the friendships made throughout my career.

Following Timeless Design Principles

Modernism is not an edgy, severe aesthetic.

It is a collection of design principles—a balance of scale, an emphasis on the movement within and between spaces, and a connection to nature.

As architects, we choreograph those principles to create warm and livable homes that connect deeply with the people who live in them. Each space embodies who they are, what they love and how they live, whether that is tucked in the mountains, overlooking the ocean or towering above a city.

Every choice we make is purposeful, with a dedication to detail, a discerning eye and a mind for creative, elegant solutions. And each decision shapes the home into livable art—the seamless flow between indoors and outdoors, the framing of expansive views, the play of light along the walls.

Our clients allow us to be artists. Together, we build a more meaningful home.

Our Process

1 / 4 Schematics

Sculpting the Home

We begin designing by sculpting space. We draw extensively, continually refining to ensure your home evolves into your vision. As architects, we are problem solvers, and coming up with creative solutions that meet the complexity of each space and your design parameters adds richness to your home.

We present multiple design schemes at the onset. Together, we will compare and contrast these schemes, selecting and combining the strengths of each until we arrive at a solution that goes beyond form and function—it becomes livable art.

2 / 4 Design Development

Infusing Personality

We begin to fill in the details, the nuances of each space—including materials, lighting, and fixtures—that make your home uniquely suited to you.

We take a holistic design approach, building a collaborative team of talented consultants who bring their expertise to help shape the design. Interior furnishings, outdoor spaces, and engineering all play an important role in the comfort of the home—we guide those selections to ensure the final product matches the initial vision.

3 / 4 Construction Documents

Communicating the Vision

We understand that architectural work is a significant investment. That’s why we develop documents to communicate the design intent for construction, permits, and pricing. Detailed floor plans, elevations, sections, schedules, and specifications define the scope of work so that a contractor can price and build the project with precision. Our drawing set is extremely thorough, because time and thoughtfulness invested before construction is invaluable.

4 / 4 Administration

Construction from Start to Finish

Construction Administration is an important role for an architect. My team and I are on the construction site, bringing a discerning eye to every stage of the process—participating in site meetings, reviewing shop drawings and samples, and checking contractor pay requests. From groundbreaking to punch-list completion, we ensure that your home comes to life, exactly as you envisioned.
