A historic landmark on Woodlawn Avenue, in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood, this renovation complements traditional form with modern function. The couple and their two young boys needed a kitchen that would accommodate their lifestyle, while preserving the details that make this home unique. We worked with the existing vocabulary, relocating windows and doors and adding a new window above the sink that faithfully reproduces the building’s historic architecture. Built-in display cabinets add storage and frame the windows. The resulting space honors both the past and present—it’s become the center of the family’s activities.
